Exceptional 22k gold Cameo Brooch
c. 1820 – 1830.
Neoclassical Shell Cameo depicting classical fight scene based on the column of Trajan
Excellent condition no chips or cracks, could do with a mineral clean to help keep the shell in good order.
Note the earlier c-clasp and pin extends quite far out from brooch signalling this is an old cameo brooch. Also the style of setting relates to this time. The links below have the same cameo in different settings and another link has the same setting with different cameos. Note there was huge demand for cameos at this time and carvers were copying mythological carvings based on the column of Trajan and column of Marcus Aurelius etc and also copying older 16th 17th century brooches.
